Grappling with Madama Butterfly Today: Representation, Reclamation, Re-imagination
In collaboration with Confluence Concerts, AO is pleased to announce this two-day symposium celebrating the premiere of Teiya Kasahara’s 笠原貞野 (they/them) new film The Butterfly Project: The Ballad of Chō-Chō San and the Canadian Opera Company’s planned 2022 production of Madama Butterfly, which calls attention to the problematic nature of this opera in today’s environment of growing cultural awareness.
The film will be presented without charge on Confluence Concert's YouTube channel, however advance registration is required for the artist talk back on February 11, and the panel discussions on February 12.
