Amplified Opera Explores the Potential of Alternative Funding Models for the Arts by Launching New Initiative Called Tactical Creativity
The independent opera company embarks on a business development project to explore the possibility of a hybrid organizational structure.
Amplified Opera announces the addition of soprano Jaclyn Grossman and pianist Rich Coburn to the team. The two will work with AO co-founder Aria Umezawa to develop and test a hypothetical hybrid business model for the arts organization. The World Economic Forum expressed that creativity is one of the most important skills for business leaders to invest in, and advocated engaging directly with artists as a means of bringing that creativity into their organizations. Tactical Creativity is working to better understand what artists know about creativity that would not be obvious to the business sector, and develop methods of effectively bringing that creativity to businesses that are seeking to enhance their teams.
“From our initial research, there is a real interest in bringing artists into organizations to help boost creativity,” says Jaclyn Grossman. “We’re hopeful that we can develop tools that will help businesses, measure impact, and help artists better understand the tools they already possess that might make an impact beyond the arts sector.”
“We are interested in helping teams collaborate in ways that are more productive and generative,” says Rich Coburn. “As professional artists, we know what it’s like to bring a wide array of personalities together in the name of creating something greater than ourselves”
“What Tactical Creativity is investigating is a business in its own right, but taking our cue from B Corps in the US, we wondered if there wasn’t a way to envision an organization that made a social impact on multiple fronts,” says AO co-founder Aria Umezawa. “The idea of helping people access their authentic voice, and finding better ways of working together is at the core of what Amplified Opera does. In light of the recent ME to WE scandal, Amplified Opera understands that it is imperative that any actions we take be thoughtful, fully transparent, and in the best interest of the public.”
